Drew Kilbourne - President
Drew is the managing director of the Synopsys Software Integrity Group’s North American security consulting practice. He has 35 years of experience in the software industry, working to implement security strategies and solutions within the telecommunications, financial services, television, healthcare, and real estate industries.
He spent 11 years of his career at Cigital where he played a key role in growing the firm from a small start-up through to its $200 million acquisition by Synopsys in 2016.
During his tenure at Cigital, Drew also acted as the president of the Cigital Software Security Vendor Assessment Center, a non-profit venture supporting organizations’ evaluation of their software supply chain to ensure security measures were implemented accurately and effectively.
Drew and his family have been actively involved with A Place To Be since 2011 when his son, Jack, joined the music therapy program. Over the following months and years, Jack gained a great deal from the program.
Inspired by the positive impact that A Place to Be has had on families such as his own over the years, Drew is thrilled to join the Board of Directors in 2019, and to continue extending the mission of A Place To Be in the years to come.
Taylor Price - Vice President
On July 8, 2004, then 18 year old Taylor Price, was involved in a catastrophic accident, while vacationing with his family on Long Island. After diving into the ocean and hitting an unforeseen sandbar, he was instantly rendered a C5-C6 quadriplegic.
Taylor began studying at Georgetown University in the fall of 2005, double majoring in finance and marketing. Despite his disability, he was one of the most "active" and visible people on campus. During his undergraduate years, Taylor co-founded the largest privately funded scholarship at Georgetown in memory of a friend's father, served as the student representative on Georgetown's Board of Directors for two years, was a key student leader in the development of the Healey Family Student Center, and was one of Georgetown's biggest sports fans. Taylor graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as a member of the Class of 2010 and his Masters of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management in 2012, also at Georgetown University. During his 2012 graduation weekend, Taylor was presented with the Ignatian Student Award.
Since his life-changing accident, Taylor has become an advocate for the disability community. In 2005, Taylor spoke on Capitol Hill and helped introduce the “Employer Worker Incentive Act for Individuals with Severe Disabilities” alongside Senators Bob Dole, Ted Kennedy and Pat Roberts. Additionally, Taylor serves as an advocate for The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and has worked passionately to increase the employment opportunities for people with disabilities as a co-founder of the Georgetown University Conference on Employment of People with Disabilities. Taylor is philanthropically committed by serving on the Board of Directors of the Delbarton Alumni Association and A Place To Be® and in working with organizations such as NextStep Fitness, Inc. He previously sat on the Georgetown University Hoyas Unlimited alumni athletic board
Mary M. McCall - Treasurer
Mary’s love and appreciation of music was fostered in her early years when she studied classical piano in her native Oklahoma. After graduation from the University of Oklahoma Mary went on to a career in finance and banking as partner and co-founder of a company that assisted financial institutions with balance sheet restructuring with a particular emphasis on asset liability and risk management. She represented clients in the valuation and negotiation of the merger and acquisition process as well as composition of investment portfolios.
As a mother of five children, Mary turned to the community service world working on numerous boards to improve the education and lives of youth. She blended her financial expertise with her love of mathematics culminating in an appointment to the Academic Standards Committee for the State of Minnesota. Later Mary became involved with a non-profit day camp in Mt. Desert, ME. She chaired the Board of Trustees as well as the Finance and Investment committees. In 2017, Mary was instrumental in securing an endowment gift of $12 million endowment fund for the camp. She continues on the Board of Trustees and is a member of 100WomenStrong serving Loudoun and Northern Fauquier counties.
Mary holds a degree from the University of Oklahoma and advanced degrees from the Darden School of Business and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She recently moved to VA from DC. She still plays the piano and enjoys singing whenever the opportunity arises. She resides with her husband in Aldie, VA and Mt Desert, ME. She is an avid golfer and enjoys traveling.
Stephanie Place - Secretary
Stephanie is a charter member of 100 Women Strong, a private foundation serving Loudoun County and serves as Grant Coordinator. Stephanie serves on the boards for A Place to Be and Project Horse. She volunteers with The Equine Rescue League and with other animal organizations. Stephanie is also active in bringing awareness to Childhood cancer.
Stephanie was born in Southern California and moved to Northern Virginia at the age of 13. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech with an Animal Science Degree. She is a stay at home mom, currently lives in Broadlands with her husband of 24 years, 21-year-old son, two dogs, two cats and two horses. Stephanie has owned and showed horse since she was eight years old. She has competed in Hunters, Jumpers, Western and Eventing. Stephanie currently rides Dressage and competes with her Morgan Pony at Prix St. George.
She is an avid sports fan especially anything related to The Washington Nationals and Virginia Tech Hokies. In her spare time, she loves playing tennis, riding her horses and training dogs.
Shannon Crocker
Shannon Crocker became interested in horses at a young age and subsequently also fell in love with Middleburg. She advanced through the young rider ranks and graduated with an Engineering degree from the University of Virginia. Her thesis was being able to do MRI’s on horses which is now common practice.
Over the years, focus shifted from horses and career to taking the next step focusing on career and has been with Microsoft for 11 years now. In addition to regular job responsibilities, opportunities at Microsoft included creating and leading the “Culture Club” to improve culture within the National Security Group and leading charitable efforts through the Microsoft Give Campaign, being a Vice President appointed lead for the efforts, helping with communications to raise millions of dollars.
Shannon has been supporting the Department of Homeland Security for over 8 years and now her team has responsibilities across the Department of Justice as well. Her passion is empowering customers in both the mission space and cybersecurity, enabling greater customer success across these organizations and helping solve tough challenges. She has found new ways to impact her customers by facilitating cross collaboration & bringing together Microsoft’s resources to help customers achieve their goals.
Previous experience ranges from dynamic flight controls and navigation systems for UAV’s supporting aviation companies and the Army to helping facilitate Neuroscience research with observational and behavioral software. She has participated in various organizations including the Homeland Security and Defense Business Council (HSDBC), ACT-IAC and AFCEA.
She is married to Sean and has one son Brodie (12) who reside in Middleburg, VA. In spare time, she enjoys hiking, tennis, skiing, yoga and cooking.
Shannon Davis
A lifelong consumer and devotee of classical music and myriad additional genres from jazz, to pops, to country and contemporary Christian, Shannon studied piano for many years before realizing the arts world was better served by her fundraising skills. Shannon is currently serving as a director for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC as a member of the Development Committee and Director Recruitment. As well, for the past nineteen years, Shannon has served as a trustee for the Washington Bach Consort and served as Board Chair from 2008 - 2011. Shannon currently serves as Co-Chair of the Development Committee of the Consort and is Chair of the Planned Giving Committee. A zealous supporter of children’s music and arts education, Shannon co-founded the The Community Music School in Upperville, Virginia in 1994, and served as Board President until 2002. Shannon also served as Trustee for the The Hill School in Middleburg, Virginia (2013 - 2017) as Co-Chair of the Development Committee. As a former nurse, community healthcare, particularly combating addiction and homelessness, is a keen interest; Shannon currently serves on the The Samaritan Inns’s Campaign for Hope of which husband Jim is Co-Chair. An amateur sports photographer, Shannon’s latest subject is her first grandson, Edwin James Davis, born in November2015. Shannon is mother to three daughters, Meg, Kara and Charlotte Davis all avid concert attendees and former students of the piano, flute, violin and ‘cello. An avid fox hunter, Shannon will hang up her spurs for any concert, any time. As well, her husband’s general contracting firm also brings Shannon frequently to the District and she is proud to state that his firm has renovated and constructed the following arts supportive organizations: The National Theater, Constitution Hall, the headquarters and studio of National Public Radio, Arena Stage, the Round House Theater, Wooly Mammoth Theatre, Avalon Theater, the Media Campus of BET, the Performance Hall of Georgetown Visitation, and the most exciting to date, the expansion of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Donna Hickman Moore - (Past Treasurer)
Donna Hickman Moore has been a board member since 2017. Donna brings to the table a wide range of experiences acquired over years of working within the banking world. She has served as a Market Leader and Vice President for BB&T Bank, as well as a Vice President of Commercial Lending for Middleburg Bank, Atlantic Union Bank, and is currently at Virginia National Bank.
Donna's excellent track record in lending and financial expertise makes her an excellent Treasurer of the Board for A Place To Be. Her son Noah has participated in several A Place To Be Summer Camps and Social Groups.
Doug Meeker - (Past Treasurer)
Doug Meeker is an accomplished technology executive with a broad range of experience in digital media and software. As a senior leader for AOL, Best Software, Examiner and Gannett, he has built and managed P/L responsibility for a variety of sales, marketing and operations organizations from start-ups to $100M divisions.
As the Founder/CEO of 3R Behavioral Solutions, the developers of the Life Sherpa platform, Doug is channeling his technology start-up experience and his passion to help children with executive functioning challenges (typically caused by ADHD and Autism) to become self-reliant and lead more independent lives.
Doug has been involved in a number of disability related initiatives over the last 10 years since his son was diagnosed with Autism at age 4. Leveraging his experience running the digital Yellow Pages for AOL, Doug created a local search engine for the parents of children with Autism called the Autism Help Network.
In addition, he has served the last 6 years on Verizon's Consumer Advisory Board where he advocates for the expansion of intellectual diversity in the workplace.
Atoosa Reaser
Atoosa Reaser, a Loudoun community member for nearly 20 years, lives in the Algonkian District with her husband and son, where she volunteers for LINK Against Hunger and as a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts. At LCPS, she has served as an executive board member for the Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee, a classroom volunteer, PTA leader, and substitute teacher.
Atoosa is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia to teach and has personal experience with the gifted and talented programs, special education, and Individualized Education Programs.
As a member of the Virginia State Bar, Atoosa practices law part-time. Combining her interest in youth, government, and law, she has been qualified by the Virginia Supreme Court as a guardian ad litem (an attorney who represents the best interest of children) and was unanimously appointed by the Board of Supervisors to a team that administer services for at-risk youth.
Atoosa pairs her vision of providing our children opportunities to reach their full potential with a belief that the integrity of our community depends on each member participating in their own government, which led to her running for local office in 2019. She has served as the Algonkian District Representative to the LCPS School Board since January 2020, including two terms as its Vice Chair.
Judy Washburn
Judy was born and brought up in California but moved to Washington, DC after University to be an Administrative Assistant to General Lucius Clay at the State Department and later at the Republican National Finance Committee. While working there she met her husband. For many years they were very much involved in the early days and development of The Wolftrap Center for the Performing Arts.
After moving to Middleburg, Judy served on The Hill School Board, the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Foundation and the Windy Hill Foundation Board which she has served on almost since its inception in the early 1980’s, Judy is thrilled to now be serving on the Board of A Place To Be.
Board Emeritus
Benjamin Graham
Benjamin H. Graham is President and the founder of The Graham Companies, LTD., which provides real estate asset management advisory services for independent schools, corporate and private investors throughout the United States and abroad. He has also managed troubled real estate portfolio assets.
Mr.Graham is a Life Director of the National Home Builders Association where he served in a host of volunteer leadership positions. He is on the Board of Trustees of George Mason University Foundation. He was Chairman of the Alexandria Seaport Foundation and the United States Olympic Committee in metropolitan Washington DC. Mr. Graham holds a BA from George Mason University and a Masters of Public Administration from the George Washington University of America.
Benjamin H. Graham also was a Co-founding board member of A Place To Be. He and his wife KC were the first two people to believe that A Place To be needed a home and that the concept should become a reality.
Hunt Lyman
Huntington Lyman grew up in New York City and Connecticut, and graduated from Yale in 1983. He then moved to Middleburg and taught English at Hill School, Foxcroft, and Notre Dame Academy. He is currently a teacher and the Academic Dean at Hill School. Hunt earned a Masters degree at Wesleyan University and a doctorate from the University of Virginia, and he has published many articles and given many presentations about teaching. Over the past fifteen years, Hunt has appeared in many Tom Sweitzer productions, including Porches, Of Mice and Men, Working, Little Shop of Horrors, and Into the Woods. Hunt resides in Middleburg with his wife Sue and their son Christian.
Tom Northrup
Tom was born and raised in Parkersburg, WV. He graduated from The Hill School in Pottstown, PA and went on to earn his BA in American Civilization and his MSEd from the University of Pennsylvania. He was captain of Penn’s varsity basketball team during the 1967-68 school year. From 1968 to 1981 he taught and coached at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, and was the Middle School Head for nine years before becoming Headmaster of Hill School in 1981. After his twenty-nine year tenure as Headmaster, Tom was named Headmaster Emeritus in 2010. In this position his responsibilities include Development, primarily Major Gifts and Planned Giving, as well as assisting the Trustees and Head of School with strategic planning. In 2011-12, Tom served as the Interim Director of the Benjamin Franklin International School in Barcelona, Spain. His interests include reading, travel, and athletics, and he currently serves as a Board Member for The Piedmont Community Foundation and on the Advisory Board at The Hill School (PA). Tom and his wife, Ann, live in Middleburg and are the parents of two sons, Alex and Drew and have two grandchildren, Harper and Emma.
Carla O'Brien
Carla O'Brien is the founder of Coach Carla LLC, a Life Coaching Company that offers coaching and work with horses to help People, Corporations, and Organizations to find their happiness and success.
Carla is a Mom of 4 kids all with a large variety of "D's," including ADD, OCD, ASD, LD, Dyslexia, and Lyme Disease. She dedicates her life to helping those who are "different" to thrive and be happy in their lives, and their work.
Carla was a valuable Board Member who brought insights born from actual personal experiences in her own different life, in her family, and in the corporate world. Her children have personally been profoundly impacted from being a part of this incredible organization, and she hopes to be of great support in bringing the work and the message of A Place To Be, to all who need it.

Dr. Rae Stone
Rae Stone served as the President of the A Place To Be Board from 2013-2019. A marine mammal veterinarian best known for pioneering the use of diagnostic ultrasound in dolphins, Rae co-founded Dolphin Quest in 1988, creating a new standard for the public display of dolphins. Dolphin Quest, now with three locations worldwide, is a recognized leader in veterinary care, and reproductive success. They successfully strive toward creating natural enriching environments, interactive educational programming, in fostering ocean conservation and stewardship.
Rae and her family have known Tom Sweitzer for many years through his work at The Hill School. Their relationship took on a whole new meaning in 2011 when Rae’s youngest son, Forrest, sustained a severe traumatic brain injury in a snowboarding accident.
Through the winding road of Forrest’s recovery and the highs and the many setbacks he has experienced, his involvement with Tom and music therapy has been nothing short of a miracle. When Forrest couldn’t speak, Tom helped him breathe. When Forrest couldn’t sing, Tom helped him hum. Through a year and a half of incredibly hard work and dedication, Tom helped Forrest find his voice again, a gift that can never be repaid. Rae’s commitment to Tom and A Place To Be is to help others faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, have the same opportunity to heal that Forrest has experienced through the restorative power of music therapy through the establishment fo the Forrest Stone Allen Financial Aid Fund. Rae, along with Forrest and her family have helped raise more than a half a million dollars for the fund, which has provided financial support to more than 30 percent of the families seeking music therapy services at A Place To Be.
